Robert "Bob" William Gary was the ninth born child in a family of eleven children of Asrel A. Gary, a farmer, and Alice Juliette Morris of Sabine County, TX. Robert W. Gary and Uta Bell Gordon were married in Sabine County, TX on December 13, 1917.

In 1930 US Census for Beaumont,Jefferson County, TX, District 12, NARA Film No T626, Film # 2342095, Family #502, Sheet 16A: Robert W. Gary and Uta Gary his wife, and sons Robert Gary and Gordon Gary were boarders in home of John Holly. Head Robert W. Gary was born in 1896, was age 34, born in TX, both parents were born in TX. Uta Gary was born in 1899, was age 31, born in AR. Her parents were born in MS. Son Robert Gary was born in TX age 9; Gordon Gary was born in TX age 7.

Robert Gary was a teacher; his death certificate states "Educator".
