Elizabeth was the first born of Samuel & MaryAnn (James) Staples. She married David A. Byers on April 25, 1866 in Hancock Co. IL. They were the parents of three children: James Edward (b. 1867), ClaryAnn (b. 1868), and Sarah Belle (b. 1869). Elizabeth died in 1871 leaving three young children orphaned as their father moved away. Samuel and MaryAnn Staples raised their grandchildren until Samuel got sick. Clary and the grandfather died a year apart 1882 & 1883 and are buried near each other in the South Basco Cemetery. After the death of Grandfather Staples- the youngest, Sarah Belle went to Kansas with her grandmother to live with Uncle John William Staples. The son, James Edward, went to Kansas for a short time, but migrated to the Bay Area of California to raise his family and live out a long life with his wife, Virginia Rose.
