Frank Balch, 88, of Plum, died Monday, June 6, 2011. He was born Feb. 15, 1923, in the Kinloch section of Lower Burrell, to the late George and Anna Nellis Balch. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in New Kensington, then served as a Marine during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He lived in New Kensington most of his life and Florida for several years. Mr. Balch was a mechanic and a welder for the Harmar Coal Mines for 32 years, retiring in 1980. He had a passion for automobiles, travel by car and reading. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Katherine Savinda Balch; daughter, Judy (Joseph) Toth, of New Kensington; two sisters, Dorothy Ansani, of New Kensington, and Helen Petkus, of Seattle, Wash.; seven nieces; and five nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Balch, in infancy; siblings, Alex Balch and Leona Sakala; and a grandson, Harry Toth. Private visitation and a funeral liturgy outside of Mass were held in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD.
