AUSTINTOWN – Warren H. Knopp, 94, of Columbiana, passed away Wednesday evening at Clare Bridge in Austintown.
Warren was born on June 6, 1918, in Beaver Township, the son of Alvin and Effie (Bare) Knopp, the fifth of 10 children.
A 1936 graduate of Columbiana High School, he worked for the Concrete Shipbuilding Company in San Diego during World War II. Warren spent most of his working years as a farmer. He retired from Youngstown Welding and Engineering in 1978 when he lost his right hand in an industrial accident.
Despite his handicap, Warren was an avid gardener in his retirement, specializing in dahlias and roses. In the summer, Warren loved to grow flowers, and in the winter, he was an avid bird watcher.
He was a 45 year-member of the East Liverpool Dahlia Society, the American Dahlia Society, a 35 year-member of and past president of the Columbiana Rose Club, the Men's Garden Club of Youngstown, Warren Rose Club, Mahoning Rose Club, and the American Rose Society. He was also a member of the former Grant Cook Bird Club. He was a faithful member of the Leetonia Mennonite Church since 1973.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his wife, Esther Lois (Thompson) Knopp, whom he married in October of 1943; his daughters, Susan Ann Knopp of Columbus and Sarah (Jack) Puffenberger of Toledo; a sister, Ruth Emch of Bowling Green; a brother, Homer Knopp of Canby, Ore.; his grandchildren, Kathryn (Matt) Del Vecchio of Columbus, Thomas (Jackie) and Emily Puffenberger of Toledo, and Martha Puffenberger of Eaton; his great-grandchildren, Libby and Emma Puffenberger and Audrey and Charlotte Del Vecchio; 20 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his parents, Warren was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and James Knopp; and five sisters, Wilma Souders, Dorothy August, Marion Robertson Haus, Lois Evelyn Knopp, and an infant sister, Edith Knopp.
Burial will be at Midway Mennonite Cemetery.
