MRS. GENE WRIGHT
Maud Champlin, daughter of George Henry and Sarah Culbertson Champlin, was born in Chariton, Iowa, March 14, 1880, and died Sunday morning, July 4, 1954, at the age of 74 years, three months and 20 days.
She lived in Chariton in early infancy, then at an early age her parents moved to a farm in Warren township. She lived in Warren township until after the death of her husband in 1940, when she moved to Chariton to live with her daughter and where she spent the remaining years of her life. In early womanhood she taught several years in Lucas county schools.
On October 1, 1902, she was married to Gene Wright, also of Warren township. To this union were born three children; a son, who died at birth, Helen, who taught in Chariton schools for a number of years and now lives in Leavenworth, Kansas, and Max, who lives on route 5, Chariton.
Preceding her in death, besides her parents, husband and infant son, are four brothers and sisters, A. L. Champlin, George Champlin, Nellie Fulton and Florence McGinnis.
Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Albert Ohme, son, Max Wright, two grandchildren, Dixie and Gene Wright; three sisters, Mrs. Ina Conner and Miss Mabel Champlin of Ames, and Mrs. Ada B. Hall of Chariton; and two brothers, John Champlin, Toppenish, Wash. and Dr. Howard Champlin, Chicago.
She always took an active interest in her community and always willingly helped and served her neighbors, the church and the school.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Beardsley funeral home, with the Rev. Hector William Thomas, of Ames, officiating. Pallbearers were Homer Curtis, Jim Fulton, Glenn Conner, Wright Newsome, Tommy Johnson and Oda Clevenger. Interment was in the Chariton cemetery.
