WIDOW'S DECLARATION FOR PENSION OR INCREASE OF PENSION. STATE OF KENTUCKY, COUNTY OF LINCOLN
On this 15 day of April A.D. one thousand eight hundred and 93 personally appeared before me Notary Public LUCINDA SMITH aged 55 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the Pension provided by Acts of Congress granting pension to widows: That she is the widow of BALLARD SMITH, who enlisted under the name of BALLARD SMITH at Harrodsburg, on the 22nd day of November 1861 in Co K, 19 Regt Inft Vol as a private in the war of late Rebellion who was granted Pension for Right ingurnal hernia (Complicated) and Rheumatism and resulting disease of heart. And from the above disease said BALLARD SMITH DIED ON THE 19 DAY OF MARCH 1893 who bore at the time of his death the rank of Private that she was MARRIED UNDER THE NAME OF LUCINDA BROCK TO SAID BALLARD SMITH ON THE 27 DAY OF SEPT 1883 by Judge Brown at Wm. Routins there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that applicant were previously married & HER FORMER HUSBAND DIED MARCH 16, 1870. "THE DECEASED FORMER WIFE DIED April 19, 1882." In the matter of the pension of LUCINDA SMITH widow of BALLARD SMITH late Private Co. K 19 Reg't Kentucky Vols. On this 10 day of June 1893, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, Louisa Gibson, aged 50 years, a resident in the County of Lincoln and State of Kentucky whose Post Office address is McKinney and Lucy J. Smith, aged 54 years, a resident in the County of Lincoln and State of Kentucky whose Post Office address is McKinney declares as follows: In the year of 1861 and on the 26th day of November the same year applicant LUCINDA SMITH were married to HARVEY D. BROCK by Rev Benjamin Scales at A. Rodgers in Lincoln County Kentucky we were present and saw them married, we further state that on or about the 16th day of March 1870 that the said HARVEY D. BROCK died we visited him in his last sickness and saw him when he died and we make these statements from a personal knowledge and we further state that the late BALLARD SMITH WERE PREVIOUSLY MARRIED AND THAT HIS WIFE DIED ABOUT THE 19TH DAY OF APRIL 1882. Sir: I am pensioned under the above certificate number, because of the service of the soldier named. I was his wife during the Civil War. I am 78 years of age, having been BORN JANUARY 4TH 1838, AT NEAR LEE TOWN IN LEE COUNTY, VIRGINIA. Yesterday at Mr. Wm. Routen's, Mr. Ballard Smith, three-score-and-six, and who has been married twice before, again entered the matrimonial state, taking Mrs. Lucinda Brock, a fair widow of 46, to be his wedded wife. Long may they live in connubial bliss.
