Florence Emilina (Emmaline) Smith West Reed, 98, of Mount Clare Ave., Asheville, passed away Thursday, June 2, at her residence.
Born in Boiling Springs, NC, she was the daughter of the late Wishem (Washup)? and Melvine Jolly Smith. In addition, she is preceded in death by her first husband, John Harvey West and by her second husband, Sanford Reed.
She worked for 26 years as a sock border in hosiery mills.
She is survived by one son, Thomas West of Weaverville; five daughters, Florence Taylor, Mary Wyatt, Melvine Roper and Ruthine Owensby all of Asheville, and Betty Daily of Texas; and a number of grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Monday, June 6 at 3 p.m. in the Tunnel Road Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sky View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
