Note: this memorial updated November 24, 2013 with the transcription (and photo of) her Fairfield Ledger obituary. A previous transcription turned out to be only partly done. The full text is now presented on this memorial.

The DOB year of 1837 is an estimate - evidently she was 55 years old when she died in 1892. Other Ramsay family group sheets also use 1837 for the estimated DOB. It isn't likely that a more precise date can be calculated.

The nickname "Lizzie" is added to this memorial per the mention of it in her obituary.

A Good Woman Gone.

Wednesday's Ledger briefly noted the death of Miss Elizabeth Ramsay in this city the 11th inst. Her final illness was of nearly five months' duration, and the sad termination did not come without warning or unexpectedly. Miss Ramsay was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Ramsay, who came to this county from Pennsylvania in 1849, and both of whom have long since passed away. She was born in Washington county, that state, and was fifty-five years of age. A lady in this city who knew her well for more than a generation pasy this tribute: "My acquaintance with Lizzie Ramsay extends over a period of forty years. As a student in the seminary I recall her many excellences. Naturally of a lovely, cheerful dispositon, she cultivated all those graces which ennoble womanhood. She was a woman of unusual intelligence and attainments, but so modest and unassuming that only those who knew her well could appreciate the unselfish loveliness of her character. In her capacity as teacher in the schools of Fairfield, who can measure the good influences set in motion or whence their ending" The hearts of the entire community will go out in sympathy to the bereaved brother and sisters, and especially to that member of the family to whom she was almost more than a sister." The remains were interred Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services werre conducted by Rev. H. L. Marsh, pastor of the Congregational church, with which denomination Miss Ramsay had long been identified. Dr. Magill also assisted with the exercises.
