Abigail, daughter of Anthony and Abigail (Small) Strout both of Truro, Massachusetts and (later) Cape Elizabeth, Maine, was the widow of Timothy Eldridge of Provincetown, Massachusetts and Falmouth, Maine (intentions 25 Dec 1756). She was born 17 Jul 1735 in Provincetown, Massachusetts and later moved with her family to Maine. [Underhill, Lora A, "Descendants of Edward Small of New England and the Allied Families with Tracings of English Ancestry, Revised. (3 Vols)," Vol 1, p. 392; MD 9:103]. She died 27 Jul 1821 in Falmouth. She and Pelatiah had at least five children, possibly others. [Stackpole, Everett S, "Old Kittery and Her Families," p. 384]. Abigail's age at death (83) in 1821 is at variance with her date of birth as given in Provincetown Vital Records (a transcription of which was published in The Mayflower Descendant, 9:103 (1907) - "abigal Strout Dafter to anthony and abigal Strout born the 17 day of July 1735"). The vital record, being a primary source, must take priority.

Abigail was a first cousin to Elisha Small Jr. whose leadership of the heirs of Daniel Small in the matter of the Ossipee land claim has been well described elsewhere. Their legal defeat in this enterprise dealt severe blows to both Pelatiah Fernald and Elisha Small, Jr particularly.
