Jacob Jefferson Cutler was born 25 April 1833 to Benjamin F. and Nancy Nicholson Cutler, moving to Houston county in 1845.
He married Clarinda Matilda Wilson, daughter of George W. and Nancy Cannon Wilson, on 30 Sept 1852.

Private Jacob Cutler joined Capt. D.A. Nunn's company in Crockett, Houston County, Texas on 21 June, 1862 for a period of three years or for the duration of the war. Capt Nunn's company joined the 28th Texas Cavalry in Arkansas 1 Aug 1862 as Company L. also known as Col. Horace Randal's 1st Texas Lancers. Randal's cavalry was dismounted in Sept 1862, but Nunn's Company L. was allowed to remain as a cavalry unit.
Nunn's Company served as an independent company until it was assigned as Company C to Lt. Col. Charles Leroy Morgan's Regiment Texas Cavalry in Nov 1863. Morgan's men generally as scouts and raiders in Arkansas and northern La. Since they did not operate as a unit, they fought where they were needed. Morgan's regiment was attached to Parson's Texas Cavalry and served in Arkansas, Missouri and Louisiana.
Morgan's Cavalry participated in Marmaduke's Expedition into Missouri from 27 April though 2 May 1863; Little Rock Campaign
from Aug to Sept 1863, and at Pine Bluff 25 Oct 1863. Parson's Brigade was responsible for watching federal operations from Memphis to Vicksburg.

Pvt. Jacob Cutler died and was buried in Tennessee by a river near the end of 1863. His brother-in-law, Pvt. Jacob G. Williams was in the same unit and was with him when he died. Family history claims Jacob Williams bought lumber from a Tennessee sawmill to make a coffin to bury Jacob Cutler in.

Jacob Cutler's wife Clarinda Matilda Wilson was born 6 Jan 1833 in Texas and died 11 July 1856. she is buried in the Augusta Cemetery. The Wilson family came to Texas in the 1830's and received a Spanish land grant in October 1835 which included all the land on the south side of Augusta. The town of Augusta was built on the Wilson League.

Jacob and Clarinda Cutler had three children, all born in Augusta. George Benjamin Cutler was born, 27 Aug 1853, Nancy Caroline Cutler was born, 10 Aug 1854, and Benjamin Franklin
Cutler, 1 Nov 1855. Clarinda died 1856 leaving three children to be raised by her parents the Wilson's. Jacob J. Cutler married his second wife, Martha L. Williams around 1860. They had one child, Thomas Jefferson Cutler, born in 1860 and died 12 Jan 1909. They also had a child who died and was buried in Augusta Cemetery beside Jacob's first wife Clarinda M. Cutler and is marked only with a footstone baring the initials G.C.

Jacob Cutler sons George B. Cutler and Benjamin F. Cutler
married sisters Rejoice and Mattie Helm from the Elkhart area with both raising large families. Many descendants of both brothers still live in the Augusta and Houston County area today.
Great grandsons T.P. Cutler and Tommy B. Cutler and family still live on the original Wilson League in the Augusta Community. The daughter Nancy Caroline Cutler married a McCann and most of her descendants settled around Elkhart in Anderson County. Jacob's second wife Martha was remarried to Reuben Weisinger and lived near Grapeland. where they raised a large family where many descendants still live today.
