Rites Held for George Walsh, 73
George Walsh was born on December 23, 1888 on a farm 3 1/2 miles north of Bristow, the son of James and Abigail Williams Walsh, and passed away on Monday, November 12, at his home of a stroke.
He was united in marriage to Stella Mae Surfus in 1911. To this union were born two daughters and one son, Fern, Valda and William.
Mr. Walsh farmed south of Bristow for over 50 years. He attended rural school in Coldwater township and Bristow high school.
Surviving are his wife, Stella; two daughters, Fern at home and Mrs. Clarence (Valda) Schrage of Greene; a son, William of Dennison; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Ethel McNielus and Mrs. Susie Flanigan, Bristow and Mrs. Ted (Alma) Gabriel of Santa Barbara, California.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, William, Henry, Frank and Delos; and three sisters, Mae Ufford, Emma Overturf and Laura Searle.
Funeral services were Thursday afternoon, November 15, at the Church of Christ with G.W. Beadle, the local minister, in charge. Burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery.
Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Hillis Brown of Oskaloosa, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Surfus of Huneston, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Fisher of Toledo, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Gabriel of Santa Barbara, California, and Garold Raisch of Mason City. Other relatives and friends attended from Marble Rock, Waverly, Greene, Allison, Dumont, Hampton, Bristow, Clarksville, Dennison and Carpenter.
