Quinton Ray, 90, died in Klamath Falls, Ore., on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011.


Quinton was born on March 15, 1921, in Flagpond, Tenn., to William Shelt and Laura Bell McIntosh Ray. He grew up in that area and after graduation enlisted in the U.S, Army in 1940. He served for over 27 years, including World War II, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 31, 1969, as commander sergeant major.


On Oct. 21, 1969, in Germany, he married Gudrun Basler, who survives. They moved to the Klamath Basin, where he worked for Maywood Industries until his retirement in 1986.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on his 1958 Chevy truck, and his daughter and granddaughter.


He is survived by his wife Gudrun; daughter Jenny Lynn Ray; granddaughter Cassandra Allegra Ray; a future great-granddaughter due in October; brother and sister-in-law Harold and Florence Ray; nephew and his wife Raymond and Farley Ray; special friends Louis and Anne Marie Palazzolo and Angie White; and his beloved dog Kiki also known as "Arfie."


He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Venus, Vance, Dwight, Rex and Brady, and sisters May Nellie, Berlie and Hettie.
