Retta Elrod age 94 of the Granville Community was pronounced dead on Wednesday afternoon June 26, 2013 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center after becoming gravely ill at her daughter`s home.

Services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted Saturday afternoon June 29 by Doyle Wilmoth. Interment followed in the Granville Cemetery.

Born Retta Lue Jones in the New Salem Community of Jackson County, Tennessee, on September 25, 1918, she was the fourth of six children. Retta was the last to die of the late Sid Tom and Nannie Lee Hale Jones.

The five siblings preceding Retta in death were Effie Bell Brown, Evie Mahaney, Fannie Mai Allen, Lewis Jones and Nettie Huff.

On January 9, 1938 she was united in marriage to Marvin Ray Elrod who preceded her in death on November 29, 1995 at the age of 82. They had enjoyed almost fifty eight years of marriage.

Two sons preceded her in death, Phillip Wayne Elrod who died at the age of 31 on January 19, 1984 and Marvin Thomas Elrod who died at the age of 50 on January 5, 1997.

A granddaughter Cathy Paulette Elrod Bailey also preceded her in death om July 17, 2007 at the age of 44.
Mrs. Elrod, a longtime homemaker in Granville, was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ.

Surviving is her daughter Ruth Carter and husband Billy of Jackson County, Tennessee; son Carl Elrod and wife Susie of Sumner County, Tennessee; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and
six great-great-grandchildren.
