Karen Adele Yearsley Kent, age 77, of Salt Lake City, passed away from causes incident to recent heart surgery on Friday, May 27, 2011.

She was born on the 18th of September, 1933 in Malad, ID. She was the youngest of nine children born to Nathan Melvin and Josephine Jones Yearsley.

Karen attended BYU and then lived in Salt Lake City for the next several years, working and being very involved in the Mutual Improvement Association of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She especially enjoyed the Music and Dance Festivals. During the late 1950's, she served a mission in Southern CA.

She again lived in Salt Lake City during most of the 1960's, worked at the Church Administration Building and was secretary to Elder Richard L. Evans for seven years. She was also a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir during some of those years.

She married Brian Kent and moved to Anchorage, AK, where they lived for some thirty years. Two daughters, Colleen and Kristen, were born to them in Alaska. After over twenty years working for the Anchorage School District, Karen retired and returned to Salt Lake City.

She was preceded in death by her husband Brian and her daughter Colleen. She is survived by her daughter Kristen Yearsley of Anchorage, AK; her sister Rula Yearsley (Don) Gowers of Nephi; her brother Joyce Yearsley of Orem, a brother-in-law Phil Rees of West Valley City; many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren all of whom will greatly miss her cheerful attitude and loving company.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the LDS Church located at 135 A Street, Salt Lake City, with a viewing one hour prior.
Interment will be held at Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi at 3:15 p.m.
