"J. Kenneth Baxter, Sr., aged 76, of Cherry Valley, died Friday, June 17, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, where he had been taken earlier in the day after suffering a coronary attack on his way to work. Mr. Baxter was born November 11, 1889, in the Town of Cherry Valley, the son of John E. and Cora (Fraats) Baxter. On June 14, 1916, he married Sara Lynk, who died October 2, 1960. He was employed by the White Sulpher Company, Sharon Springs and had been a resident of the Village of Cherry Valley for the past 15 years. He was a member of the former Leesville Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, J. Kenneth Baxter, Jr.; two grandchildren, Jay and Gail of Marblehead, Mass.; a sister, Mrs. A. Rutledge Manchester, Cooperstown, and a brother, Benn Baxter, Sharon Springs. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, from the Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley, with the Rev. William G. Boomhower, retired Lutheran pastor of Cobleskill and the Rev. Verne E. Fillmore, pastor of the Leesville Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in Sharon Cemetery, Sharon Springs." ["The Otsego Farmer & Republican" (Cooperstown, NY)]
