Sylvia M. Belunes (nee Bales), 81, of West Bend, died on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at The Kathy Hospice.

She was born on July 16, 1929, in the town of Trenton to the late Frank and Agnes (nee Bahr) Bales. After graduating from West Bend High School, she worked for a short time at the West Bend Company.

After her marriage to Eugene W. Belunes on May 28, 1949, the couple lived in Trenton before moving to West Bend in 1951. While their children were young, she was a stay-at-home mom. She later became employed with the West Bend Joint School District. For 15 years, she worked in the food service department at the high schools.

She was a life-long member of Holy Angels Parish, volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital with the Pink Ladies and made many hats for newborns at the hospital. She also enjoyed knitting and ceramics.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene; four children, Terry (Michele) of Portland, Ore., Gary of St. Germain, Sharon (John) Scharrer of West Bend and Tom (Lisa) of West Bend; 10 grandchildren, Michael (Marcy) Marshall, Brian (Kristin) Marshall, Mandy (Scott) Sadownikow, T.J. (Jessica) Belunes, Becky Belunes (fiancé Josh Voigt), Katie (Chris) Borchert, Kristin Scharrer (fiance Nate Wiech), Corissa Belunes, Bradley Dorsey and Gavin Dorsey; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Franklin (Margie) Bales of West Bend; brothers-in-law and sisters in-law, Robert Hoeft of West Bend, Walter Hoeft of West Bend, Alvina Daley of New Port Richie, Fla., Raymond Belunes of Long Lake and Josephine Roell of West Bend; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sherry Belunes; three brothers, Raymond (Loretta) Bales, Alex (Marie) Bales and Sylvester (Alice) Bales; two sisters, Dolores Hoeft and Rosalie Hoeft; and her mother-in-law, Mary Belunes.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 28, at noon at Holy Angels Catholic Church with burial following in the parish cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the church only on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.
