John & Rena were married on Sept. 16th, 1914
Oklahoma, County Marriages, 1891-1959

John's daughter, Lois, believes he may have been part Cherakee indian. So far I haven't found proof of this but, I did find his great-grandfather Nimrod Pigg born in North Carolina in 1798. Born about this same time were two other Pigg boys, James and John. James was notable in that he was indeed Indian (although I don't know what tibe he claimed). It is very possible the three boys were brothers, but as there is no indication, at this time, as to their parantage, I can't say for certain.

John's daughter Lois also indicated to me that it was very difficult to grow up with the name Pigg. She said they were often teased because of it and would often get into fights.

"My daddy, he was a grower, and we would take the produce to market and we would all sit on top of the watermellons. As we got close to the marketplace someone would call out 'Here comes that Pigg feller and all his little Piggs' and the fight would be on. We'd all jump down off the cart and go to it."
