August 6, 1925 Daniel J. Feight, a pioneer of Dallas Township, died Wednesday evening at his home in Melcher, Iowa. His death came after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Feight was born in southern Indiana, October 15, 1848. At the age of 4 years, he, with his parents, moved to Marion County, Iowa, and for 70 years he lived on the so-called Feight homestead, six miles west of Dallas, Iowa. In March 1923, he moved to Melcher, Iowa where he spent the remaining days of his life. He died at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 20 days. In 1874 he was united in marriage with Miss Carlene [Charlotte] Klages, who preceded him in death 21 years ago. Surviving are eight children, three sons: John Feight, Fred Feight, and Walter J. Feight; five daughters: Mrs. Mary (Feight) Bote, Mrs. Charlotte (Feight) Knust, of Artesia, South Dakota; Mrs. Josie (Feight) Schrader, Mrs. Lydia (Feight) Horn, of Euclid, Minnesota; and Mrs. Luella (Feight) Haselhuhn, and 35 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church Saturday, August 8, 1925, where the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Walter D. Oetting, and interment was made in the cemetery at that place (St. Paul Cemetery in Germantown). – Melcher Union
