On 8 Jun 1831 in Londonderry Twp., Bedford Co., PA he married Mary J Boor. They named their children: Mary Jane E, William J, Elizabeth Ann, Samuel B, Delilah, Abraham, Jonathan B and George S. Carpenter. All of their offspring were born in Hyndman, Bedford Co., PA.

Their grandson Dr. Mont Clair Carpenter was the father of the Hollywood star Jean Harlow.

The Londonderry Township, PA census of 1880 reported them living with their son William J Carpenter.
