In February of 1971, when Bill was 26, he was sleeping on his brothers sofa one night when Scott's wife, Cynthia, put a pillow over his head to muffle the sound and shot him with a rifle. Even though there was never any question that she did this, Cynthia was never prosecuted because, in the parlance of the time, it was a "family dispute."

Man Is Found Shot to Death;
Woman Is Held
William Larkin Flowers, 25, of 4601 Callicoate Road, was shot to death shortly before midnight and police were holding a 34-year-old woman under armed guard at a local hospital for questioning. Police said Flowers, a former Alice resident, was shot three times in the head with a .22-caliber rifle, apparently at close range. Other details of the shooting were not immediately known. Police received a telephone call at 11:59 p.m. from a woman saying a man had been shot at 4601 Callicoate Road. A patrol unit went to the scene 'but did not enter the house. Some time later another couple arrived at the police station to report a shooting at the same address. Police accompanied them to the home and found Flowers on a couch in the living room. Police said charges would probably be filed later today after the hospitalized woman can be questioned. Nieces County Medical Examiner Dr. Joseph Rupp this morning ruled the death a homicide. Flowers died of gunshot wounds to the head, Rupp said.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times, 1971 February 23.

Bill was survived by his wife Yvette, mother Isabelle Flowers Newkirk, sister Susan and brothers Scott and Aubrey.
