Son of Daniel Abbey and Susanna Hotchkiss. Married Maria A. Derby in the year of 1855 at Jefferson County, New York. Father of Elsie Louella Abbey.

On 8 Sep 1864 from Cape Vincent, Jefferson, New York he enlisted in Company E, New York 186th Infantry Regiment. His rank was Private. On 2 Jun 1865 at Alexandria, Virginia after being promoted to Full Corporal he was mustered out.

In 1881 he lived with his wife Maria and daughter Elsie at Wolf Island, Ontario, Canada. According to the 1881 Canada census his occupation was Mechanic. By 1900 he was living with his wife per the 1900 US census in Cape Vincent, Jefferson, New York, his occupation was shown as Cobbler, they were Methodist.

Obituary: THE CAPE VINCENT EAGLE, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1903. IN OLD JEFFERSON - News of the county tersely presented. Alsom Abbey, an old resident of the village of St. Lawrence, died on Tuesday of last week.  The funeral was held on Thursday.
