She was born in Summitville, Mary was born the sixth of 11 children to Lemuel E. and Jessie (Lauer) Silvey, and resided in the Summitville-Alexandria area all of her life.
Mary attended Summitville schools and was a longtime member of the Summitville Christian Church. She retired from Delco Remy, formerly of Anderson, in 1983 after 30 years. She was a member of the Alexandria Women's Service Club, the Alexandria Eagles Auxiliary, United Auto Workers Local 662 and the Frankton Order of the Eastern Star.
Mary loved home gardening and her specialty was in canning tomatoes. She was very devoted to the care and nurturing of all of her family.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Jo) Greer and Troy (Becky) Greer, all of Alexandria; seven grandchildren, Todd (Michelle) Johnson, Heather (Everett) Waymire and Jacob Greer, all of Anderson, Katreena (Jim) Humphrey and Greg Greer of Alexandria, Clayton (Tara) Greer of Bedford, and Joshua Greer of Savannah, GA.; three stepgrandchildren, David (Cindy) Summers, Deidre (T.J.) Kettery, and Danny Summers (fiancee-Erin Overman), all of Alexandria; 14 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her two four-legged friends and companions, "Beau" and "Toby".
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Greer in 1989; a daughter, Mary Lee Johnson in 1988; four sisters, Anna Mae Ramsey, Laura Grace Nottingham, Martha Jane Vollenhals and Jessie Pearl Silvey; and six brothers, Lemuel Elmer Silvey, Ronald LeRoy Silvey, William Earl Silvey, Jackie Dale Silvey, Herbert Lee Silvey, and Carl Leon Silvey.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, 600 E. Walnut St., Summitville, with Pastor Nathan Lutterman officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, for at the church after 9 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church-Summitvville, through the funeral home.
