Gary Wayne Slater, 61, of Angleton, Texas passed away Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the Hermann Hospital in Houston. He was born January 13, 1940 in Bay City to Charles Slater and Clara Mangum Slater. He was a resident of Angleton for more than twenty years and was a truck driver for Varina Trucking Company. Formerly of Bay City, he was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by: wife, Kathleen Bates Slater of Angleton; daughters, Kellie Maxwell of Bay City and Debbie Henrichsen and husband John of Bay City; step-daughter, Judy Gregory and husband David of Angleton; son, Christopher W. Slater of Savannah, Tenn.; step-son, Thomas Bates and wife Alice of Angleton; sister, Kay Slater of Bay City; brothers, Podie Slater of Bay City and Clinton Joe Bass of Houston; grandchildren, Tony Maxwell, Seth Henrichsen and Caleb Henrichsen of Bay City and Krista Bates, Kathleen Bates, Timothy Bates, Michael Gregory and Michelle Gregory of Angleton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Clara Slater, and his brothers, Kenneth and Harlan Bass.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2001 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City with the Rev. Sam Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. His grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
