He immigrated with his parents and siblings to America in 1847 on the ship Nagasaki with the Hendrik Scholte group, settling in Pella, Iowa.
He was an 1870 Sioux County Dutch pioneer.

Married with his first wife, Maria Johanna Cornelia LeCocq on Mar 8, 1855 in Marion Co, IA. She died in Sioux County in 1873. He m2 Etta Abma in Sioux Co on 24 Nov 1874.
His seven children with Maria LeCocq:
