John Cox was born March 20, 1814 Logan County, Ohio. His parents were Abner and Elizabeth (Fidler) Cox.

John Cox was married to his first wife Mary Patrick on August 20, 1837 in by Jonah Meredith (Logan Co. Ohio). John and Mary (Patrick) Cox had 9 children:

1. Sarah Cox was born May 14, 1839, in Ohio. She died May 8, 1848 in LaPorte Co., Indiana.

2. Jane Cox was born February 1841 in Ohio. She married Henry Lundy. She died in 1890.

3. Elizabeth Ann Cox was born March 24, 1843 in Ohio. She married 1859 Newberry S. Longnecker. She died January 14, 1918.

4. Amanda Cox was born February 1845 in Ohio. Her first husband, James Houchin, died soon after returning from 3 years’ service in the Civil War. She married J. R. McCashland in 1866. She died April 22, 1917.

5. Lydia Cox was born March 27, 1848 in Indiana. Lydia Cox married David W. Cuttler. She died March 9, 1873, aged 24 years, 11 months, 12 days She is buried in the Phillips Cemetery (south of Streator, Livingston Co., Illinois), and was survived by two daughters.

6. Charles Jay Cox 1850-1919 was born August 1, 1850 in Indiana. Charles Cox married Anna Ogden. He gave his father’s and mother’s birthplace as Ohio.

7. Samuel Perry Cox (1852-1926) m Mary Elizabeth Fry.

8. William Henry Cox was born May 16, 1855 in Indiana. He married Elma A. Deenis (1857-1898) December 3, 1875, and Lillian Stuckey

William Henry Cox died February 20, 1914. (28) Both are buried in the Phillips Cemetery, 1 mile east and a little south of Streator, Livingston County, Illinois. (41.086700 -88.800072)

9. Orville Franklin Cox was born September 11, 1858 in Illinois and married Margaret Mellon. Orville Franklin Cox died after his father died August 19, 1882,

A Logan County, Ohio, land deed written May 6, 1824, Jacob Cox Sr. sold 40 acres of land to Abner Cox, Isaac Cox, John Cox and Samuel Cox sons of Abner Cox Jr., deceased. The deed was witnessed by George Heath and Samuel Tennis. So each grandson got about 10 acres. (39)(68)

April 3, 1833 Samuel Cox (son of Abner Cox Jr.) buys 5 acres for $20. (39)(68)

The family was in Fairmont, Fillmore County, Nebraska for the 1880 census in June.
Mary (Patrick) Cox died in October 24, 1880 in Nebraska. Since the family was in Fillmore County, Nebraska for the 1880 census in June we can assume that Mary (Patrick) Cox probably died there. She is buried in Plot: Blk 11 Lot 7, Space 7 at Fairmont Cemetery

John Cox, age 68, born Logan County, Ohio, the son of Abner Cox and Elizabeth Fidler, presently a farmer from Newtown, Livingston County, Illinois, on August 31, 1881, married Delphia Lundy of Newtown, Illinois.

John Cox died August 19, 1882 in Newtown Township, Livingston County, Illinois. His stone states he died August 18, 1882. He is buried in the Phillips Cemetery (41.086700 -88.800072).

His second wife, Philadelphia (Delpha) Cox died September 21, 1884 at age 69 years, 6 months, and 25 days. She is also buried in the Phillips Cemetery.

Obituary for John Cox in the August 25, 1882 issued of The Pontiac Sentinel

DIED: - John Cox was born in Logan Co., Ohio, March 20th, 1814, and died at this home in Newtown of congestion of the stomach, Aug. 19th, 1882. Bro. Cox had been a life-long Christian and for years a member of the U.B. church,. of this place, but at the time of his death was a member of the M.E. church, of Newtown.

He was married to Mary Patrick, Aug., 24th, 1832 (sic), and unto them were born nine children seven of whom remain. He was left a widower Oct. 24th, 1880, and was again married Aug. 4th, 1881, to Mrs. Delpha Lundy, who still survives him. While we mourn his loss he rests in peace and we await reunion beyond.
