Benjamin E. Hewett, 70, farmer of Florence, died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday in a local hospital. He had been a resident of Florence for 17 years and lived on Woodlawn drive, Rt. 2.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Waters Funeral Home by the Rev. W.M. Howard, pastor of Five Points Baptist Church and Elder Oscar Broom, pastor of the Primitive Baptist Church of Monroe, N.C.

Mr. Hewett, a native of the Red Bluff section of Horry County, was born Feb. 15, 1886, a son of the late Winfield Scott and Sarah Rebecca Faulk Hewett of Charlotte, N.C. and Horry County. He lived most of his life in the Red Bluff and Green Sea sections of Horry County. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church near Bishopville.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. B.E. Hewett of Florence the former Mary Grainger; one daughter, Mrs. Bruce M. Jernigan of Florence; one son, George E. Hewett of Florence; two sisters, Mrs. E. Perry E. Harden of Florence, and Mrs. J. Emory Stroud of Nichols; two brothers, Willi H. of Wilmington, N.C., and Joe W. Hewett of Conway, and eight grandchildren.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Strosey Hewett, Weston Hardee, Rudolph Todd, Harry Jernigan, Zarvis Ford and Dean Stevens.
