Jack Hager, 76, of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Devils Lake, ND, died on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the Woodside Village, Grand Forks.
Mass of Christian Burial for Jack will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Robert Pecotte will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Jack will be Paul Streifel, Steven Streifel, Phillip Schmaltz and Mathew Jager.
Jack was born on July 17, 1930 at Selz, North Dakota, the son of John M. and Magdalina (Mildenberger) Hager. At age 11, he moved with the family to Devils Lake where he was reared and educated.
On October 5, 1954, Jack was united in marriage to Agnes K. Schmaltz at Minnewaukan, ND. They established their home on a farm west of Penn, later moving to the Hampden/Edmore area where they farmed through the years. In 1972, they moved to their farm north of Devils Lake. Beginning in 1980, they spent winter months in Arizona. Agnes died on August 4, 1987. Jack moved to the Odd Fellows Home in July of 2000 and in 2002 to the Good Samaritan Center both of Devils Lake. In 2004, Jack moved to Woodside Village where he made his home until his death. Jack was a former member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Starkweather and of St. Joseph Catholic Church after moving to Devils Lake. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles Lodge and Elks Lodge. Jack was a farmer through and through and was always interested in what was happening on the farm scene.
Jack is survived by his Sons: Robert Hager of Devils Lake Paul Hager and his wife, Brenda of Madison, Alabama Daughters: Shirley Hager of Grand Forks Anita Kurzhal and her husband, James of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho Grandchildren: John Hager, Braden Hager and Madison Hager Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Raymond and Rosa Hager, Milwaukie, Oregon Ken and Judy Hager of Devils Lake Sisters and Brothers-In-Law: Cecelia Parkos of Pengilly, Minnesota Agatha and Lyle Baker, Devils Lake Irene Streifel, Jamestown, ND Berniece Bays, Spokane, Washington Maggie Evanson, Northwood, ND Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
