Well Known Dentist of the City Passes Away at Eleven O'clock Tuesday Night
FUNERAL TO BE FRIDAY
Services Conducted From the Residence, the Elks Being In Charge of the Rites.
Dr. Charles Henry Tillotson, for many years a leading dentist of this city and prominent in professional and social circles, passed away at eleven o'clock on Tuesday evening at the family home, 3220 Western avenue.
Dr. Tillotson had been in failing health for the last year. Last summer, accompanied by Mrs. Tillotson, he made a trip to Europe, in the hope that his physical condition would be benefited. On returning home he apparently was improved, but within a short time he began to decline, and he gradually grew weaker until death relieved him.
Dr. Tillotson resumed the practice of his profession after his return from Europe, but after a few weeks he was forced to relinquish this work, and for several months he had not been in his office.
During his entire illness Dr. Tillotson had not been bedfast, with the exception of about two weeks, when he suffered from an attack of pneumonia, and the last few days of his life.
Dr. Tillotson's ailment had been diagnosed as Bright's disease, during the last months being complicated with hardening of the arteries.
-Born in Mattoon 45 Years Ago.-
Dr. Tillotson was born in this city on January 8, 1869, being slightly more than forty-five years of age. With the exception of the time he had passed in college acquiring his diploma, he had spent his entire life in Mattoon. He was graduated from the Mattoon high school in the class of 1888. The following fall he entered the dental department of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, from which he was graduated in 1891.
Returning to this city, Dr. Tilloston was associated for a time in the practice of his profession with Dr. S. A. Campbell. But later he opened an office of his own. This he conducted contuously up to the time he was forced to give up because of declining health.
On December 7, 1898, Dr. Tillotson married Miss Czarina Clark, a daughter of General and Mrs. Horace S. Clark. To this union there were born two children, both dying in infancy.
Dr. Tillotson was a member of the lodge of Elks, of which he was a past exalted elder, and of the Knights of Pythias.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Czarina Tillotson, and the mother, Mrs. Ellen Tillotson. The father, Charles I. Tillotson, died a few years ago. Mrs. George S. Richmond and Mrs. Mildred Matlock of this city and Mrs. Blanche Stulfauth of Ellensburg, Wash., are aunts.
-Funeral Services Friday.-
The funeral services will be conducted from the residence, 3220 Western avenue, at 2:30 o'clock on Friday afternoon. The officiating clergyman will be Rev. H. L. Pyle of the First Congregational church and Rev. C. L. MacKay of the First Presbyterian church. The rites will be charge of the Elks. Burial will be made in the family lot in Dodge Grove cemetery.
