John R Mehlisch, 76, of Marshalltown, brother of Mrs Bertha Richter of State Center, passed away Friday at Westwood Nursing Home following an illness of several months. He had undergone surgery and had been hospitalized previously.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran church with Rev Martin Johnson in charge. Burial was in Hillside cemetery.
Mr Mehlisch was born October 16, 1888 in Luverne, Iowa the son of Martin and Maria Reise Mehlisch. He was confirmed there in the Zion Lutheran church in 1902.
He was united in marriage to Olga Hamelau October 12, 1912 and they farmed west of St Anthony and lived at Colo, Dows and LeGrand before retiring to Marshalltown in 1959.
He is survived by his widow, two sisters and one brother: Mrs Bertha Richter, Mrs Arthur McVitty and Martin Mehlisch. He was preceded in death by a son in 1931.
