Elmer Thurber, a veteran of the Civil war, died at the Soldiers' Home at Burkett at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday following an extended illness. Death resulted from hardening of the arteries. He was born in Trumbull county, O., July 21, 1841, and was 85 years, 1 month and 18 days of age at the time of his demise. He served for a period of three years during the Civil war, being a private in Company G, 15th Indiana infantry. Mr. Thurber was admitted to the Home here from Lexington on May 7, 1921. He leaves to mourn his loss three sons, Frederick, William, and Harry Thurber, and a daughter, Mrs. Louise Eleman, all of Lexington. The remains were taken to Lexington where interments will be made.
