He came to New York State from Connecticut from an old established family or directly from Scotland and he was a Lieutenant during the Revolutionary War. He married Elizabeth Peake, an older sister of my ancestor Jonathan Peake. He and Elizabeth as well as Jonathan Peake, Sr. and his wife Rachel Marshall (and others) are buried on the old farm in East Chatham which later was known as the Old Barry Farm.

His will mentions his wife Elizabeth, seven sons and three daughters. The sons are Samuel, Daniel, Calvin, Luther, Charles, Johnathan, and Leonard Thompson and the daughers are his eldest daughter Lucinda Curtis, wife of Zacheus Curtis, Loonne (Joanna?) Merril, the wife of John Merril, and the youngest daughter Sally Murphy, the wife of Smith Murphy. The will is listed in Columbia County, New York Will Book, Volume C, page 246 and recorded September 19, 1808. A copy of the will was put out on the internet by Karolyn Campbell on January 31, 2004 who made a note that Samuel Thompson's wife Elizabeth was Elizabeth Peake.

The Peake family was from Woodstock, Connecticut and can be found in records there. Elizabeth was an older sister of my ancestor Jonathan Peake who was born in 1755, the same year that his father John Peake died at Walpole, New Hampshire in an Indian attack on a farmhouse there. John Peake was at the farmhouse with his oldest son who survived the attack along with the family that owned the house. John Peake was the only one in the house who died while his wife, Hepzibah (Perry) Peake and other children were safe at Woodstock, Connecticut.
