OBITUARY of LUKE SCANLAN -- Wisconsin "South Milwaukee Voice Journal", April 10, 1915

LEADING PIONEER CITIZEN OF OAK CREEK DIES ON MONDAY.

Luke Scanlan, one of the leading citizens of the Town of Oak Creek for the past fifty years, died at his home on the Chicago road, near the county line, on Monday. He has been ill for some time, suffering with a cancer on the face, followed more recently by pneumonia. He was 73 years of age.

The funeral, which was held on Wednesday morning, was the most largely attended ever held in St. Matthew's Church. Interment was in St. Matthew's Cemetery. The remains were taken from the residence to the church in the electric company's funeral car.

Mr. Scanlan was born near Lockport, Illinois, October 16, 1841. He came to Oak Creek with his parents in 1842, and has lived on the farm there ever since. During the Civil War he served in Twelfth Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. For forty years he was a member of chairman of the board of supervisors of the Town of Oak Creek or a member of the Milwaukee county board of supervisors. In 1912, he was elected to the state assembly from this district and served one term. Ill health prevented him from again being a candidate last fall. He was one of the charter members of Washington Lodge No. 38, Knights of Pythias.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank Haas and Miss Nellie Scanlan, and two sons, William and Emmet.
