Celestine "Sally" Gefreh died Sept. 16, 2010, in Sherwood, Ore., after having suffered from dementia for several years. Her funeral was held Sept. 21, 2010, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Sherwood, with the Rev. Thomas McCarthy officiating.

Sally was born in her parents' home in rural Emmons County on Aug. 13, 1925, to Leopold and Frances (Kuntz) Bernhardt. She attended school in Marie School District in Emmons County. She later moved with her family to the rural St. Anthony's Parish area in Logan County, where her family operated a general store until 1945, when the family moved to Linton. She worked in the family store until her marriage.

On June 3, 1946, Sally married John Gefreh at St. Michael's Catholic Church rural Emmons County. After their marriage, they purchased the farm that had belonged to her parents. They lived on the family farm until 1957, when they moved to Bismarck and continued to farm land located north of McKenzie until 1977. They moved to Sherwood, Ore., in 2010.

Sally was involved in activities at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Church and School and also St. Mary's Central High School. She enjoyed cooking, needlework, traveling and attending her children's and grandchildren's activities.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John Gefreh, Sherwood; daughter, Helen Sweeney (Dan), Oregon City, Ore.; five sisters, Alice Naumann (LeRoy), Linton, Ida Bauman (Ignatius), Portland, Ore., Fran Daggett (Rod), Portland, Ore., Sister Rose Bernhardt, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Pauline Gerhart (Leonard), Sioux Falls, S.D.; sisters-in-law, Mary Gefreh Masseth (George), Mandan, and Katie Gefreh Vetter (Wendelin), Linton; granddaughters, Stephanie Jensen (Bill), Portland, Ore., and Elizabeth Sweeney, Chicago; and great-granddaughters, Madeline and Kaitlyn Jensen, Portland, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leopold and Frances Bernhardt; and her daughter, Karen Gefreh.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, officiated by the Rev. John Guthrie, with interment at St. Mary's Cemetery
