Alice Meyer Durazo is dead; member of pioneer family.
Tucson native Alice Meyer Durazo, a member of a pioneer Tucson family, died of cancer Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was 79.

Born in 1899, Durazo grew up in the area that is now south of the Community Center and called Barrio Historico. She was the daughter of Henry Meyer and Carolina Fairfax Goodwin, both of whose parents were Tucsonans more than 50 years before Arizona became a state.

She was married to Alexander Levin Durazo, who died in 1974. The couple lived in Nogales, Ariz., for 32 years. There, he was city clerk and treasurer before they returned to Tucson about 20 years ago.

Durazo is survived by two daughters, Gloria Campoy of Tucson and Alice Bonorand of Nogales, Ariz.; a son, Alexander Durazo Jr. of Nogales, Ariz.; two sisters, Olivia Maxey and Jean Buckner, both of Tucson; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mass will be said this morning at 9:30 at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 1946 E. Lee St., with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, 3015 N. Oracle Rd. Transcription by Contributor Mary Cummins (48205043)
