Civil War Veteran and prospector.
According to the Pension applications and records, it states that "He left the state of NY 1865 and went to Colorado" until the spring of 1866 when he went to Montana, "having residence here continually since." According to Judy Lamphere Rice, John H. Peck - in the 1892 probate papers was living in Demersville, Missoula, Montana. He was tentatively identified in Clark's Fork, Custer, Montana in the Federal Census of 1880 and again in the 1900 Federal Census in Sweet Grass, Chouteau, Montana. No spouse. Both times his occupation:has been as a prospector. Apparently, he died at the Montana Soldiers Home as the date if death was reported by the home. In another document he states that he was not married and apparently never married because there was no widow information in any of the files online at NARA or in the printed records. He was a Civil War Veteran, Co. I, 35th Infantry Jefferson County Regiment, New York Volunteers, he lived 70 years.
