...One of the speakers compared her life and influence in the community where she last resided to the beautiful flower garden she had made and cultivated at her home as compared with the rough country surrounding it.
Mrs. Shanks, better known as Mae Shanks, was the daughter of J.P. and Fidelia Jacobs. She was born at Salt Lake City June 9, 1880, but later came to Heber with her parents where she grew to womanhood and on December 24, 1902, was married to Jos. Shanks of Heber. During the past five years they have struggled together to build up a home on the reservation country and have succeeded in making a veritable garden spot amid the surrounding desert country. Mrs. Shanks in her youth was an ardent worker in the Primary and Sunday Schools and her work never slackened in this line when they moved to the reservation. Though in poor health for many years she has been faithful to her duties and will be greatly missed.
