Stephen David Purswell was the son of William S. Purswell and Elizabeth Condrey Purswell.

He married Isobel Diar Hough Purswell on July 1, 1885 in Texas. Isobel and Stephen had 12 children. They were:

Frank Purswell - Twin of Jesse, died in infancy
Jesse Purswell - Twin of Frank, died in infancy
Carrie Bell Purswell (died young)

Stephen was a timber cutter and timber seller. He was killed in Louisiana when a pine tree that was being cut fell onto an oak tree which fell on Stephen and killed him instantly. He was buried in Louisanna and shortly thereafter his family moved back to Texas.
