Mrs. Maude Clowdus Atchley, sister of John Clowdus of this county, was found dead in an upstairs bedroom at her home in Sevierville, Tenn., January 22. It was believed that she died in her sleep, as there was no evidence of violence. Mrs. Atchley was last seen on the street late Thursday afternoon, January 20, and when she did not appear again, a couple who roomed in the Atchley home, reported her absence to city officials, who made the discovery. Mrs. Atchley, in her 60s, was the widow of the late J. Theodore Atchley, a merchant, and was a member of a prominent Sevier County family. She is survived by three children, Mrs. Elizabeth Lowe of Carthage, G. L. Atchley of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Madge Jackson, of Nashville. Five brothers, Lemar and John Clowdus of Oneonta, C. C. of Leeds, Chandler of Chattanooga, William of Tuscaloosa, and one sister Mrs. Bessie Frye of Maryville, Tenn.
