George D. Clowdus, one of the oldest citizens of this county, died at his home on Route 1, Oneonta on Wednesday night of last week. He had been in feeble health for some time and his death was probably due to general debility. Mr. Clowdus was 81 years of age and was a descendant of one of the pioneers settlers of this county. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a good citizen. Mr. Clowdus was a Confederate Veteran and saw much hard service during the War Between the States. The deceased is survived by five sons, C.C. Clowdus of Morris; John C. Clowdus, of Route 4, Oneonta; L.C. Clowdus, of Route 1 Oneonta; Chandler Clowdus, of Tarrant and Will Clowdus, of Pratt City; four daughters, Mrs. J.A. Brock and Mrs. Homer Frye, of Maryville, Tenn.; Mrs. Theodore Atchley, of Sevierville, Tenn.; and Mrs. Brady Leek, of Route 1, Oneonta; one brother, Dan Clowdus of Gadsden and one sister, Mrs. Sheba Hitt, of Gadsden. The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Oneonta and were conducted by Rev. L.T. Fendley and Dr. T.B. Nation, interment in Oak Hill cemetery.
