Suzanne displayed an interest and talent in music from her earliest years. Throughout high school, she shared her tremendous talent by participating in both band and orchestra. She was an accomplished pianist, and frequently the featured soloist in various performances at school and in venues throughout the city. In the band, she played french horn and always was the first chair french horn musician. Suzanne graduated from Classen High School in 1958, and from Oklahoma City University in 1963 with a Bachelors Degree in Music. She then began a 32-year teaching career.

Suzanne Holmes Ballard, March 10, 1940 – December 13, 2001. Suzanne was born in Durant, Oklahoma. Formerly of Idabel, Oklahoma. She graduated from Classen High School and Oklahoma City University. She taught music and history in the Oklahoma City Public Schools for 32 years, retiring in 1998. Music was an important part of her life and she performed with various music groups in the metro area.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her mother, Imogene Holmes, and her father, Howard Holmes Jr. She is survived by her son, James Brett Ballard, of Pauls Valley; her brothers Tom Holmes, San Pedro, California, and Scott Holmes, Tampa, Florida, her sister Janice Mountford, Dallas, Texas, a nephew Alex and a niece Lindsay. Memorial Services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, Edmond, Oklahoma. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to The Parent Guardian Association of the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Graveside Services are scheduled for Tuesday at the Denison Cemetery in Idabel, Oklahoma.
