Thomas Jones was probably born in Va in the middle of the 1740s. He is documented as living in Anderson Co TN (adjacent to Roane on the SW) - he was on the 1802 tax list there. A neighbor was Jabob BUTLER whose daughter Nancy married his son, James M. Jones.

Thomas was old enough to have children who fought in the Revolutionary War. We estimate his birth date as about 1745 based on the birth of a daughter, Savanah, in 1765 who had married in 1782 to a William Griffith in Franklin Co VA. In the late 1700s he lived at the head of Gamble valley - present day Oak Ridge, TN.

It is reported by Snyder E. Roberts in his book, "Genealogical work paper on three prominent Jones families of Anderson and Roane Counties Tenneesee" - held by the McClug Library in Knoxville, that this Thomas is the father of James M. Jones of Roane Co TN. Thomas is thought to be buried in the Peak Cemetery (a Jacob Peak is a the son-in-law of Thomas Jones) in Gamble Valley - there is no surviving stone however. Thomas, in Snyder Roberts book, is reported as serving for VA in the rev. war.
