Mr. Blum was at the controls when the first car was run from Utica to Syracuse on the third railon June 15, 1907. He drove limiteds and locals on this line for many years and was also one of the first to operate on the Rome-Little Falls line. He retired to enter the restaurant business five years ago.
Surviving are five sons, Alderman Frank Blum of the 11th Ward; Leonard, former supervisor; George, a retired police sergeant, Harold, and William, Utica; a daughter, Mrs. Mable Slivinski, Utica; 39 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and 18 nieces and nephews.
