J.W. Lowrey Dies at 90
John Wesley Lowrey, 90, of the Haven Rest Home at Lexington, formerly of 611 W. Sixth Street, died at 11:30 p.m. yesterday at the rest home.
Mr. Lowrey was born in Belews Creek to Mr. and Mrs. James Lowrey. He spent most of his life in Winston-Salem.
He owned and operated the Economy Grocery Store at Burke Street and Brookstown Avenue for 35 years. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He was married to the former Martha Stockton, who died in 1951.
Surviving are three sons, John K. Lowrey of Wilson, Frederick G. Lowrey of 2208 Old Salisbury Road and James S. Lowrey of 2531 Woodbine Road; one sister, Mrs. Herbert D. Stafford of Kernersville; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Forsyth Memorial Park by Dr. Ernest Fitzgerald. The family will be at Voglers Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
