Helen R. Eddy, age 93, of Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, Md., died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at her home.
Born August 16, 1915 in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of the late Howard and Bessie Beard Hess and the widow of James H. Eddy Sr., who died October 9, 1991.
She attended Hancock schools.
She was retired from Londontown Manufacturer, Hancock, Md., and was formerly employed as a seamstress with Jacob Brothers.
She was a member of the Hancock Historical Society and the AARP.
She was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church and the Philathia Sunday School Class.
She is survived by one daughter, Margaret R. Weller of Hancock, Md.; one son, James H. Eddy, Jr., of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one sister, Kath-leen Bohrer of Frederick, Md.; five grandchilden, Barbara Strunk, Donna Souders, Nicole Coles, Jamie Eddy and Simba Souders; four great grandchildren, Kailea McCormick, Shelly Strunk, Korinne Coles and Abby Coles; one great great grandson, Noah James McCormick/ Ficher.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lanahan and Margaret Long and two brothers, William Hess and Kenneth Hess.
A service was held Saturday, August 15 at 11 a.m. at the Hancock United Methodist Church, Rev. Duane L. Jensen officiated. Burial was in the Rehobeth United Methodist Cemetery, near Hancock, Md.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to The Hancock United Methodist Church, 168 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750.
