Stephen Harrison Vorce was the younger of two sons for Leroy and Caroline (Nutting) Vorce. He was named for his grandfather, Stephen Nutting. He preferred using his middle name Harrison.

He married his mother's second cousin, Kittie Nutting, on January 1, 1879 in Bangor, Michigan. On October 6, 1878 Kittie had given birth to their daughter, Blanche. Blanche was given to Harrison's mother, Caroline Vorce, who raised her to adulthood. It is unknown why their first born child would be given away as an infant.

They had a second child, son Berton, in October 1881. Harrison and Kittie were living in Bangor, Michigan on a farm owned by James Lamb Cole. Six months after his son Berton was born, Harrison died from injuries sustained during a railway accident at the pineries where he was employed. It is assumed he is buried somewhere in Bangor, Michigan.
