Henry Taylor Montgomery Hamner was the oldest son of Henry Jasper Hamner, Jr. and Missouri Belle Cline. He was named for his grandfathers, Henry Jasper Hamner, Sr. and Taylor Montgomery Cline.

On May 6, 1901, Henry married Mary Estella Manker, the daughter of James Nelson Manker and Winnie Elizabeth Rian of Pittsfield, Illinois in Bowling Green, Missouri. The marriage certificate gives their address as Clarksville, Missouri with her age being over 18 (she was 17 1/2) and his being 20. They had five daughters and one stillborn son.

Henry was a farmer and teamster and drove a wagon drawn by mules. They first lived on a farm near Atlas and later moved to Rockport and lived in the telephone office which was a house built across a small creek. A porch the full length of the house was sometimes used by people wishing to cross the creek. It was here that Stella worked as a telephone operator.

Henry died from cancer shortly after his 36th birthday. His oldest daughter was 15 at the time with the youngest being less than 3 months old. A heavy rain preceded the funeral which was held on Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Rockport with the Rev. C. E. Sanders, Pastor, officiating and the Rev. Rudd of Quincy assisting.
