Michael Charles Brown, 90, of Salina, died Thursday, April 28, 2011. He was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Chase, the son of Charles W. and Catherine (Malone) Brown. He was a farmer and rancher all of his life, and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service during Christmas rush for 15 years and Town and Country Plumbing of Salina.
Mike was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Flywheels Yesteryear Museum, Smoky Hill Museum, Salina Twirlers and Kansas Farmers Union. He served in the Medical Corps of the 9th Army Air Force during WWII, spending 11 months in England, thereafter being stationed in Europe for the duration.

Mike moved to Saline County in 1936, graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1939 and attending Brown Mackie School of Business. Mike is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Matthew, Leo Albert and Bernard William; and three sisters, Frances Elizabeth Linholm, Edna Agnes Haberman and Audrey Catherine Brown.

Survivors include his wife, the former Eleo Beth Schneider, whom he married Aug. 9, 1951; one son, James Joseph Brown, of the home; one daughter, Jane Ann Brown, OPA, of St. Louis; four nephews, Cedric and Christy Brown, of Springville, Calif., Michael Linholm, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Duane and Judy Linholm, of Prescott, Ariz., and Ronnie Haberman, of Wichita; and many grandnieces, -nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ryan Mortuary, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are to the Sacred Heart High School Endowment or Sacred Heart Cathedral. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, is handling arrangements.
