Elta Spearman Tinsley was born on November 28 1870 in Miller County, Missouri. On April 2, 1947, Elta, 76, who lived in Picher, Ok., died in the Mohave General Hospital in Kingman, Ariz. while visiting her daughter, Glee Wright.
Elta’s body was shipped to Picher, Ok where funeral services were held at the Union Church on Sunday, April 8. Afterward, burial was in the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) cemetery in Picher, Ok.
Elta was the daughter of Edmund Spearman (1832-1888) and Sarah Spearman (1847-1894). On November 14, 1897, Elta married William Compton Tinsley in Miller County, Missouri. The couple had three children —Ralph “Walt” Tinsley (1899-1973), Erma May Francis (1902-1982) Glee Tinsley Wright (1909-1980).
William’s first wife Emma Hurt Tinsley, aged 30, died in 1894, and Elta helped raise their four children —Otis, Cora, Maude and Roy.
About 1917, the family moved to Picher, Ok, a mining town, where William was a merchant and served on the city counsel.
William, aged 69, died on July 11, 1926 and is buried in the Gott Cemetery, Brumley, Miller County, Missouri.
