MOCKSVILLE - Mr. James Troy Winfrey, 83, died Monday, April 25, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born March 21, 1928, in Forsyth County, to the late Thomas S. and Annie Leontice Starbuck Winfrey. Mr. Winfrey was a graduate of Walkertown High School and the University of North Carolina. He worked for Western Electric at various locations in Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Burlington, retiring in 1982. He attended Salem United Methodist Church, serving on various committees. Mr. Winfrey also served as treasurer of the County Line volunteer fire department for several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Pearl W. Parent; and a brother, Carl Thomas Winfrey. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Cole Winfrey of the home; three children, James Robert Winfrey (Jean) of Winston-Salem, David Earl Winfrey of Bessemer City and Mary Frances Winfrey Campbell (Donnie) of Mocksville; a granddaughter, Brittany Victoria Clark of Mocksville; a stepgranddaughter, Kelly Campbell Siritunga (Dilan) of New York City; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Serena Siritunga of New York City; a brother, Jack Winfrey of Yadkinville; a sister, Dorothy W. Matthews (Arzie) of East Bend; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2011 at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robin Fitzgerald officiating. The body will be placed in the church thirty (30) minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at Eaton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, they request that memorials be considered for Salem United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall fund, c/o Paul Shew, 1582 Davie Academy Road, Mocksville, NC 27028; or NC Zoo, 4403 Zoo Pkwy., Asheboro, NC 27205. The family would like to express a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Forsyth Medical Center for their wonderful care and the many caregivers who cared for Troy at home during the last year of his life.
