William Eves, whose critical illness was mentioned in Saturday's Gazette and Bulletin, died Saturday morning at 6:15 o'clock, at his home, 424 East Thirst street. He had been ill since early in April, having then been stricken with paralysis.
He is survived by a widow and two daughters, Susan T. and Clara J.
The funeral will occur Tuesday at 10 a.m., from the family residence. Interment will be made in the Muncy cemetery.
Mr. Eves, who was a life-long Democrat, was born in Jordan township, Lycoming county, February 20, 1819. For years he and his brother conducted a woolen mill near Muncy, and in 1874 he removed to Williamsport where he has since resided. In 1870 he was living at Muncy and elected county commissioner on the Democractic ticket. He served one term. He soon afterward returned to this city, where he engaged, with his brother, C. W. Eves, in the grocery business. He served two terms in Common Council and was always active in politics. About fifteen years ago he retired from business. He was a good citizen and his death will be mourned by a host of friends.
